Wondering what Sony’s going to call that PlayStation Move sub-controller — you know, since “nunchuk” is already taken? Think no more. Sony part number CECH-ZCS1U just hit the FCC’s database, and “Navigation Controller” is written in nice bold letters right there on the label. It’s looking like this is official, as the Sony US website has been quietly updated with the change, and we think it makes a certain amount of sense, as most 3D games let you aim the camera with your dominant hand and relegate navigation to the other. Like the Motion Controller, Sony’s opted for confidentiality on this one, meaning we won’t have photos of the controller’s juicy guts for six months, but hey,at least you already know what the outsides look like- Dont worry technewstime will keep you updated. Stay tuned!

We’ve been fortunate enough to spend a bit of time with an Eyefinity setup before, but up until now, it’s been somewhat of a hassle to get a fully functional six-screen setup into a consumer’s home. Today, AMD is taking the legwork out of the equation with the introduction of the Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition, a standalone GPU with 2GB of GDDR5 memory and innate support for pushing a half-dozen panels at once. Outside of that, it’s essentially the same card that we saw last September, and based on the cadre of reviews that we rounded up, the doubled memory bank doesn’t do much to boost frame rates. What it does do, however, is enable six-screen gaming. Unfortunately (though understandably), this type of gaming scenario is only meant for a select segment of users, and many critics found the novelty wearing off exceptionally quick. In fact, it wasn’t long before NeoSeeker became fed up with the bezels ruining the experience, and just about everyone agreed that you needed to sit a good half-mile away to really enjoy it. Either way, we’d encourage you to hit up Hot Hardware’s collection of videos before biting the bullet, buying up an extra five LCDs and then regretting it for the rest of your Earthly life.

Well, we’ve already heard some rumors that Sony was considering a relaunch of sorts for the PSP Go, and it looks like at least some execs from the company are now starting to speak publicly about why such a move might be necessary. In an interview with IndustryGamers, SCEA Senior Vice President of Publisher Relations Rob Dyer admitted that the PSP Go did “confuse” customers, and that the “higher price point didn’t help matters any either” — not exactly the sort of thing you hear Sony say every day. Does that mean we’ll be seeing updated hardware or a lower price anytime soon? Dyer unsurprisingly wouldn’t say when pressed, adding only that Sony is “going back and re-communicating” with consumers.

Since it looks like GT5’s still another decade or two away from release, racing gamers need everything they can to survive the wait, and this is just about the most creative way we’ve seen to do that. At a glance, Nokia’s Ovi Maps Racing looks like a pretty simple, standard 2D racer with an overhead view, but its secret sauce lies in the map: it can turn pretty much any street in the world into a racecourse. The game lets you chart out your heated battle using nothing more than Ovi Maps data and your finger, meaning Manhattan, Prague, or your folks’ quiet, peaceful neighborhood are all potential targets for your high-speed bedlam. Seems like a great way to inject limitless replay value into an otherwise plain-vanilla racer, doesn’t it? It’ll work on any of Nokia’s Symbian^1 (formerly known as S60 5th Edition) devices, and — for now, anyway — it’s free.

The latest high-fashion gaming outfit (known as Origin ’round these parts) has just started shipping its beastly Genesis out, and if you’ve ever wondered what five large could get you in the land of desktops, wonder no more. The crew over at Hot Hardware managed to procure a darn-near-loaded machine, complete with a Core i7-920 CPU (overclocked from the factory to 3.8GHz), 6GB of Corsair DDR3 RAM, twin ATI Radeon HD 5970 GPUs, a liquid cooling system, 80GB SSD boot drive and pretty much every other top-of-the-line component you could imagine. How’d it stand up to testing? Well. Really well. It crushed every benchmark that dared get in its way, and we’re told that when pressed, the company’s explanation of its warranty was truly best in class. What’s interesting is that the MSRP of the test unit can be halved by simply opting for a few marginally weaker pieces, and we’re guessing that the overall performance wouldn’t suffer a huge deal.
After packaging and re-marketing to us our childhood over Nintendo’s Wii Virtual Console and in a multitude of other forms, Sega is putting another platform to good use in its eternal quest to make us poor: the iPhone. Due for the App Store next month, the upcoming Sega Ultimate Genesis Collection will bring together some of Sega’s existing, disparate releases for the iPhone under one roof and add a bunch more, allowing users to buy Sega Genesis games directly from the app. The first one’s free, of course (Space Harrier II), but after that you’ll be paying a decent amount for your emulation fix: Sonic is $6, Golden Axe is $5, and Ecco the Dolphin and Shining Force go for $3. The variety will undoubtedly grow over time, but we would hope that at some point Sega will offer some sort of discounted megabundle, since you can currently get 49 notable Sega titles for around $20 in the form of Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Basically: we’re not sure if this is all supposed to make us worse or better about jailbreaking.
